Building an employer brand on social media

Imagine a candidate considering an offer from your company. What is the first thing they do? Most likely, they visit your website, read Google reviews and check your social media profiles. This is exactly where they decide whether your employer brand makes sense to them. Social media is not just a channel for product marketing, but also a space for sharing values, company culture and authentic employee stories.

A new book by our founder, Petra Vrbová, Social Media in Employer Brand Building, shows how to use these tools effectively. This blog highlights the key topics from the book and offers inspiration on how to transform your employer branding strategy.

A live stream on this topic also took place and can be watched in the video below. If you prefer written content over video, continue reading this blog post, which summarizes the stream.

Why are social media crucial for employer branding?

Today’s candidates make decisions based on information they find themselves. Their first steps often lead to company websites, review platforms such as Atmoskop or Glassdoor and social media profiles. Statistics show that six out of ten candidates evaluate employers based on their social media content.

Generation Z and the emerging Generation Alpha have grown up in a digital environment and expect companies to be present on social media. Authenticity, natural communication and openness are key to being perceived as an attractive employer.

How to start building an employer brand on social media

The most important step is to connect what is happening inside the company with what you communicate externally. Start by analyzing the internal reality of your organization. What is the atmosphere like? What stories can you tell? And what is your unique value proposition for candidates?

  • Choosing the right platform: Think about where your target audience is. LinkedIn is ideal for professional communication, Instagram and TikTok appeal through visual content, while Facebook can serve as a more universal tool.

  • Internal communication: Involve employees in content creation. Brand ambassadors, competitions or voluntary activities can help strengthen a sense of belonging.

  • Content that resonates: Focus on authentic stories, photos from everyday company life and videos that showcase your culture.

How to motivate employees to get involved

Your employees are the best ambassadors of your brand. When they share their experiences, stories and opinions, they create a credible image of the company. You can motivate them through gamification, for example by creating a competition for the best post, or by involving them in an ambassador program where they share authentic experiences.

Employee involvement can also include charity projects that build a positive company image while strengthening company culture. The key is to create an environment where employees feel proud to share what they do.

How to measure your social media activities

Measuring results on social media is just as important as the content itself. Focus on the following metrics:

  • Profile and post impressions: How many people have seen your content?

  • Engagement: Likes, comments and shares show how well the content resonates with your audience.

  • Follower growth: Indicates whether you are reaching new audiences.

These metrics help you understand what works and allow you to optimize your strategy to make it more effective.

Be visible where candidates are looking for you. Social media is now an essential part of employer branding. It is not just about being online, but about being authentic, transparent and showing the true value of your company.
